The company Dr. techn. Josef Zelisko, Fabrik für Elektrotechnik und Maschinenbau Gesellschaft m.b.H. is the leading supplier of railway crossing safety systems in Austria. It is a subsidiary of the Knorr-Bremse Group and has the relevant infrastructure to implement this project.

The main tasks are, on the one hand, to connect a prototype of a railway crossing safety system to the radio network in train operation to obtain the train position and the associated time for securing the railway crossing and, on the other hand, to test this technology in the Open Rail Lab test environment.

Furthermore, the testing of a new sensor system for train position determination based on acoustic information is planned.

The basis for the radio connection of a prototype of a railway crossing safety system to the railway radio system is the secure data transmission already tested in other projects using SIL4 certified components.
Furthermore, the acoustic sensor system was tested for its basic suitability in an initial field trial at a private Austrian railway.

For Zelisko, the results are the basis for any further development steps; added value is achieved through a reduction of previous expenses and market potential is seen in the equipment of regional railway lines and private railways.
