We plan, build and operate infrastructure: ÖBB-Infrastruktur ensures punctuality, security, cleanliness and open access to the rail system. We thereby provide the right conditions for an efficient and reliable passenger and freight service by rail. Our employees plan, develop, maintain and operate the entire ÖBB rail infrastructure; train stations, routes, buildings, terminals, telecommunication systems and hydropower plants for environmentally friendly railways.
By means of R&D projects – collaborating with science and industry – we are pushing strategic topics with respect to railway infrastructure. Within TARO project three workpackages are relevant for ÖBB-Infrastruktur:
For the setup of a digital twin of railway infrastructure 3D-data capturing methods and analysis strategies like artificial intelligence are investigated and tested. First connected simulations of train operation and asset behaviour are built.
The goal for „Shunting of the future“ is to set up a digital twin of shunting which is then used to simulate the impact of new technologies.
„Regional railway of the future“ consists of enabling work for automated train operation (ATO). A mayor part of this project is the development of a train protection system that doesn’t need trackside signaling. Additional work includes developing an automated energy self-sufficient level crossing.
