As a logistics service provider, Rail Cargo Austria AG (RCA) offers tailor-made logistics and transport solutions for every type of freight. As the parent company of Rail Cargo Group RCG, it is present in 18 countries to date, has 12 logistics centres and 16 terminals internationally and, through this dense network of subsidiaries and locations, links trade routes from Europe to Asia.
For many years, RCA has been working on a wide variety of R&D projects, ranging from innovative solutions for our customers to intelligent goods trains.
In the work package "Automation in rail freight transport", we are working on the implementation of the Digital Automatic Coupling (DAK) in Europe. The focus is on specifications, organisation and support of operational testing in Austria, process analyses and simulation of migration scenarios.
In the work package "Network optimisation: Partially automated empty wagon dispatching", research is being carried out on a small part of the RCA freight wagon fleet to find out how the dispatching of empty wagons to customers can be optimised and automated in order to minimise the number of empty kilometres driven, optimise network utilisation and save manual work for the dispatchers.
