Network Optimization

TARO work package “Network Optimization” increases productivity and availability in freight transport

The TARO work package “Network Optimization” is an important step in making rail freight more efficient and shifting from road to rail. The ÖBB-Rail Cargo Group, the company anexia and the University of Klagenfurt developed a software that compares the demand for and the available stock of freight wagons and automatically generates suggestions for the dispatcher. By using mathematical optimization techniques, the number of kilometers driven with empty wagons is minimized and productivity is increased. As a result, rail freight transport becomes more efficient and more productive. Now the developments will be implemented into daily operations.
